Fourth Sunday of Easter, Year A
In John’s Gospel, Jesus compares himself to the gate used by the sheep. Thieves and marauders do not use the gate. They try to climb over the fence to get to the sheep. But the sheep know the voice of the shepherd. The shepherd knows the name of each sheep. The sheep follow the shepherd as they are called by name. We must be aware of false shepherds who only want to lead us astray. Jesus is the gate through which we must pass if we want to be saved.
