Solemnity of Christ the King, Year C
The sign above Jesus' head read "King of the Jews" and was placed there to mock Jesus. The two criminals crucified with Jesus react differently. One scoffs at Jesus. The other fears God. Jesus - in all his pain - reaches out to the repentant criminal and promises him a place in heaven. This king rules with love, not armies. Jesus' power is revealed on the cross.
