Young people from year 9 (in 2017) to young adults 30 years of age are invited to come along and celebrate in their faith with thousands of other youth from around the country and will be a celebration of one church, made up of talks and workshops as well as a festival of fun and music.

2017’s  Youth festival takes the theme “Open new horizons for spreading joy” which draws inspiration from Pope Francis’ address to young people at the Vigil at WYD Krakow 2016, along with the theme chosen for the next General Synod to be held in Rome during 2018. Pope Francis continues to challenge the young people of the world to boldly engage with their faith, their relationship with Jesus and the world.

Early bird registration is open until the 1st August, 2017. This year, we are limiting our group to 50 participants and will operate on a first in best dressed basis. After the 1st August, registration costs will also increase. We require a $400 deposit to cover the cost of the registration and confirm accommodation. Payment will be required at the time of registration, registration will not be considered complete until the deposit has been paid.

Travel – Arrival & Departure

As we are a national community – costs for travel will differ from state to state. The event starts at 9am on Thursday 7th December, so we ask all participants to arrive in Sydney on Wednesday the 6th December. The festival finishes up on Saturday evening, so again we ask that participants leave Sydney on Sunday the 10th December. Departure and arrival times will be advised asap.

A return bus trip has been organised from Mazenod College VIC to Sydney. The cost breakdown below includes estimates for return flights – these are likely to fluctuate. For those flying into Sydney – we will help to arrange transfers to and from the airport.

This year will be the first year we have attended the festival without having a parish or community based close enough to the event, so we will need to book accommodation. Costs will be finalised once we can secure accommodation. We are in the process of finalising our accommodation at the Song Hotel Sydney.  Estimated costs are between $50- $80 per person, per night.

This year – meals are not included as part of the registration for the festival. We have been advised that various food outlets will be available on site during the event and each meal should cost around $10-$15. Breakfast is included with the accommodation.

Free public transport has been provided to participants when travelling to and from the festival. Any travel outside of festival is not included.

Apart from meals and transport, only a small amount of spending money might be required (merchandise is available for purchase at the festival). We estimate that a total

of $250 will cover the meals, transport/incidentals and spending money for the 5 days.

We have done our best to provide an estimated cost breakdown, so you can begin planning and fundraising for the festival.
